Actually, the lead singer of the band had a close friend that committed suicide. so that is what the song is about. her best friend, but as to why she killed herself i donno. couldnt have because of a boy because in the song it says “he’ll love me forever”.

if you notic in the video she is holding a book by alfred lord tennyson. well at the end of the video it shows a poem called the lady of shalott. well i looked up the poem and the poem and the song are so much alike. so the song is based on that poem. and the poem is about a woman who is cursed and she doesnt know what the curse was. well she would always look in the mirror and see things. one day she saw a knight named sir lancelot. when she seen him she fell in love with him, then all of a sudden her mirror cracked from one side to another. thats when she knew what the curse was. so because she was in love with sir lancelot she died. so then she went to the river and put herself in a boat and started to sing her song. she floated down to camelot and people heard her singing her love song. they all sang her song and when she heard them singing it she died.

Going by the lyrics this song sounds to me like it is about a girl who was very young, and had a hard time getting people to listen to her so she took her own life. I think that is why she says, it’s funny how once your dead people will listen to you, so what she could not do in life she did in death which is the meaning behind, “what I never did is done”.

With this song, I won’t claim I know what she means of who it’s about. However, the word knife is used figuratively…if you listened to it…it says “the knife of a life cut short” which to me refers figuratively to the pain equivalent to a knife cut that would be cause by someone dieing young. The rest…don’t know. I have heard it is about a suicide.

I think this is about a young girl killed by a man whom she believed had loved her.

Obviously forever was severed. Then later she says her words are worth more after she’s gone, as if no one would believe her before, that there may have been abuse.

i think that her boyfriend and her mom didnt like each other and she was going to kill herself to get them to see that she was more important but in the video she didnt and everyone looked relieved so in the song she says gather up your tears keep them in ur pocket save them for a time when your really gonna need them…

i girl dies and it never says why or how she just does…then it talks about how much she hopes to look over her mother and even though she missed out on many things because she died young she is still content with the many things she did…it wasnt suicide or murder most likly an accident…the boyfriend didnt kill her at the end of the music video they hug being reunited in heaven…she woke up when dhe got to heaven and everyone going into their frames was them dieing…she never was physical with a man “i never knew the loving of a man but it sure felt nice when he was holding my hand” and when she sang “who knew forever would be severed by the sharp knife of a short life” it means who knew they wouldnt be ble to love forever because she died so young…she could have died from sickness suicide or murder but none of the people in the song or video killed her

I feel this song is coming from a very personal place. It discusses in detail what to do if she dies young.I rarely like country songs but this one touches me deeply.

I think the song is about a young girl who wants to commit suicide yet hhas not had the pleasures of life for instance love especially mentioning about the boy who will love her forever I’m not sure what the song means but it is very representative and familiar and close to my life story.

I think this song was written for a girl who died young. The band could have imagined what it would’ve been like to die young or it could have been a true story.
It’s almost like a prayer in parts asking for:
‘Lord make me a rainbow, I’ll shine down on my mother
She’ll know I’m safe with you when she stands under my colors’
This also talks about how the girl is in heaven looking over her mother as she died before her, as she died young.
