Song Lyrics
People work in strange ways
always trying to ruin your day
when good things come to you
But you've got rise above-
somebody will feel the love
you won't waste my time if you're no friend of mine
Well you can say what you want about me
but it ain't gonna change a thing
Got nothing in your life so
you gotta think about what's going on in mine
Well I hate to inform you, but I'm not going nowhere
I've got way too much to do before I die
And you can't ever change me cause I can't be replaced
and ain't nobody gonna step in my way
I'm here to stay
Put my name on the bathroom wall
it won't break me down I'll still feel tall
I meant to thank you, you see, you gave me free publicity
you think that you're gonna stop me
but you never will
I've got more sticks and stones than you could ever throw
Well you can say what you want about me
but it ain't gonna change a thing
Got nothing in your life so
you gotta think about what's going on in mine
Well I hate to inform you but I'm not going nowhere
I've got way too much to do before I die
And you can't ever change me cause I can't be replaced
and ain't nobody gonna step in my way
I'm here to stay
Well you can't stand that you can't do it like I can
don't hate on me for takin' a chance
you've been working your whole life
with no end in sight
you gotta start living life
and see the light
Say what you want about me
but it ain't gonna change a thing
Got nothing in your life so
you gotta think about what's going on in mine
Well I hate to inform you but I'm not going nowhere
I've got way too much to do before I die
And you can't ever change me cause I can't be replaced
and ain't nobody gonna step in my way
I'm here to stay
Song Comment #1
Lindsey was influenced by Earth Wind and Fire to write a more “funk-inspired song”. She had already written I’m Here To Stay on her piano, but turned it into a much more upbeat song. She said she wanted to make sure it had a lot of trumpets, something she wishes she learned how to play but never got around to learning.
