Lindsey was influenced by Earth Wind and Fire to write a more “funk-inspired song”. She had already written I’m Here To Stay on her piano, but turned it into a much more upbeat song. She said she wanted to make sure it had a lot of trumpets, something she wishes she learned how to play but never got around to learning.

In an interview, Lindsey said that she wrote this song in about 20 minutes after dealing with the aftermath of being cheated on by her now ex boyfriend, and he was blaming her for all of his mistakes that he couldn’t own up to, trying to make himself seem less guilty.
